（Vol.28） The Summer of Tokyo

For me, last year was ‘the summer of Tokyo’. I was living in Calgary (Canada) and my wife and I decided that it was time to bring our baby (9 months old at the time) to Japan and introduced her to all of her family and friends in Japan. So we decided to arrive mid-July and to stay for two weeks. For the three of us coming to Japan in the middle of summer was definitely an adventure, as we knew that the heat and humidity would be a lot greater than Calgary. But it became ‘the summer of Tokyo’ because it was after that that we decided to move back to Japan for good (or at least the long term).
Some people like to make definitive statements like “this summer is going to be the Summer of GEORGE!” Statements like this mean what? They mean that you are in store for important decisions and/or events that will only go your way. My ‘the Summer of Tokyo’ is one such example. We made a large decision to visit Japan in the dead of summer, and with an infant. Not an easy or light decision. Thereafter we decided to make preparations for an international (long-term) move. It was time for Tokyo.
As for myself, I am hoping this will be another summer of Tokyo. Even though I have now moved here, in the mean time I am hoping that I will have a lucky fun filled summer in the wonderful city of Tokyo. How about you is this your summer? Is it the Summer of Yasuo? or the Summer of Rokusaburo? or the Summer of Crepes? or the Summer of Fun? Only you can decide.

東京の夏
私にとって昨年の夏は「東京の夏」でした。私と妻（妻は日本人です）と娘は、その時カナダのカルガリーで暮らしていましたが、日本の親戚や友人に9ヶ月になった娘を紹介しようと決心したのです。日本はカルガリーより気温が高くて蒸し暑いということは承知していたので、私たち3人にとって真夏の日本に来ることは冒険といえました。しかしそれがきっかけで、日本に引っ越すことを決めたのです。
「今年の夏は、ジョージの夏だ！」という言い方があります。「ジョージの夏」とはどんな意味でしょうか？重要な決心をしたり、願いが思い通りになったりするという意味で使うようです。私の「東京の夏」もそんな一例でした。私たちは一大決心をして乳幼児を蒸し暑い東京に連れて来たし（簡単な決心ではないですよ！）、国際引越しの準備も決めました。まさに、東京のための季節でした。
今年は違う「東京の夏」だったらいいなぁと思っています。もう、引っ越しは終わったので、今年は東京で、ラッキーで楽しい夏が過ごせるといいです。あなたの今年の夏は、どんな夏になるでしょうか？「安雄の夏」それとも「六三郎の夏」でしょうか？または「クレープの夏」や「楽しい夏」かもしれません。決めるのはあなたですよ。
